Okay. I am sure that you, dear reader, are wondering what those three words at the top of this post mean, right? Well, those are the three most common body types found within the population and each of these body types has distinct and unique characteristics.
Let me begin by saying that despite the characteristics that correspond with each body type, you may find yourself in-between, and even sharing some traits that a geared more towards a different body type. This s completely normal and a lot of people find themselves in this situation.

ECTOMORPH BODY TYPES
People that belong to the Ectomorph category are generally tall and skinny. They often also have smaller joints and more lean muscle with longer limbs and stringy muscles. They also find it extremely difficult to gain any amount of weight due to the fact that they have a fast metabolism that burns calories more quickly then they can be replenished. Ectomorphs need a HUGE amount of calories to gain weight and they a more prone to losing fat very easily, thus making obtaining lean muscle easier for them.
TYPICAL TRAITS OF AN ECTOMORPH:
TYPICAL TRAITS OF AN ECTOMORPH:
- Small “delicate” frame and bone structure
- Classic “hardgainer”
- Flat chest
- Small shoulders
- Thin
- Lean muscle mass
- Finds it hard to gain weight
- Fast metabolism
MESOMORPH BODY TYPES
Mesomorph body types generally have a large bone structure, large muscles and a naturally athletic physique. This is the most common body type for bodybuilders and fitness competitors because they find it easier to gain and loose weight then other body types. People with a mesomorph body type respond best to workout regimes that include a mix of weight training and cardio. They gain muscles very quickly, but the negative trait that effects mesomorphs is that they tend to gain fat more easily than ectomorphs, which means that they generally have to keep a closer eye on their caloric intake.

ENDOMORPH BODY TYPES
Finally, people that have the endomorph body type is usually solid, but soft. They tend to gain fat easily and have a shorter build with thick arms and legs. They also are usually stronger in their upper legs, meaning that they are naturally stronger in exercises like squats. Because endomorphs are easily prone to excess weight gain, when training, they must always include both cardio and weights into their workouts.
