This morning I woke up just like any other day. I made a pot of coffee, sat down drank a cup (or four) and started planning my day. I wake up everyday thinking to myself "this will be a good day". I finished up last minute chores before deciding to take the kiddos out to the mall. Everything is all fine and dandy, until I walk into Macy's looking for a wedding gift.
I search throughout the store with nothing really catching my eye, so I decided to head the second floor. As I was looking at housewares, there were two different associates that approached me asking if I required assistance. I politely say no thank you and continue searching for a wedding gift. After searching for about 20 minutes, I was finally able to locate and decide on a gift.
I starting searching for an associate to ring me up with no luck. I walked to the other side of the housewares department and was able to find an associate to help. She was so sweet, talking to me throughout the transaction. She asked me where I was from originally, and I answered from Palestine. She went on and informed me that she was from New York and that she had numerous hijabi friends back home. She even tried to pinpoint where I was born, because she already knew that I was born here in the states. How: you may ask? I speak fluent English, and she figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Just as I was taking my bag from this associate, one of the other associates finally walked around to where we were standing. The associate then proceeded to make a remark that I was not happy about. "So how long will it be before you return this item?' I said excuse me? And she said, " I know that you will go home and use it for a couple of months and then come back and return it." "Isn't that what "you" do?"
I looked her directly in the eyes, and informed her that she must be the one who does that, because you deem everyone the way you are. She had the nerve to tell me that only "Moozlums" did such things. I in turn looked at her and
